Celebrate Food Day All Week!

National Food Day is October 24th, and Food Day Long Beach has been hard at work – announcing 10 City-Wide Food Champions, and coordinating a buffet of events listed below – and in our calendar – that highlight sustainability, food access, and innovation!

1) Food For Change

The Long Beach premiere of Food For Change, a documentary about the rise of worker co-operatives is sponsored by the LB Grocery Co-op. Watch the trailer, and visit the event page for more information.

3) 6th Annual Urban Farm Dinner
$95 10/18, 4-8pm TGE Farm (750 Via Carmelitos)
This annual fundraiser for Growing Experience Urban Farm brings together some of the most innovative chefs in the region for an evening of locavore delights. Tickets must be purchased in advance here.
4. Civic Center Gardening Workshop

Slow Money So-Cal, LB Fresh, and MADE in Long Beach collaborate to bring an event to Innovation Week – one that introduces several models of how food makers can gain access to funding. Food makers are invited to come learn more about how these models work, and the public is invited to sample amazing food from throughout the SoCal region.

6. Reel Food – A Night of Docu-Eateries
FREE 10/22, 5-9pm | MADE (236 Pine Ave)

Voicewaves LB will premiere a series of “local food stories” shorts, Food For Change will screen for free, and local food producers will offer samples and insight into their process!

7. Dia De Los Verdes
FREE 10/24, 11-7 at Growing Experience Urban Farm (750 Via Carmelitos)
This annual festival also serves as the official food day celebration. A great mix of arts and entertainment connecting sustainability, diversity, and creativity – held at Long Beach’s secret garden – The Growing Experience Urban Farm, which was recently featured in the LA Times!
